So you want an Iphone? Sounds like the ideal phone to have to show off to your friends and coworkers. Maybe it is, but before you buy one, you should read all about the benefits, and the drawbacks to having an Iphone, so you know exactly what you're getting if you buy an Iphone.
Benefits:
To start, the Iphone has all the features that most other phones have: wireless internet, mp3 capability, bluetooth compatability, sleek, slim style, and a large display. What the Iphone has that gives it an edge is:
1) The new interface allows a one-touch ability to make calls, listen to voicemail, select from favorites(you can set certain people to your favorites if you constantly talk or text them.
2) You can listen to voicemail in any order you want, listen to your friend's messages, then listen to your boss telling you to come in Sunday.
3) Iphone can multitask, you can listen to voicemail messages while downloading your favorite ringtone and still be texting a friend. And...
4) [Almost] all accessories that function with your Ipod can be used with your Iphone, and with a 4 or 8 Gb hard drive, this phone is proving to be even better than an Ipod Nano. Yes, the Iphone can also play movies with 640 x 480 pixels or 320 x 240 pixels.
The Drawbacks:
1) The Iphone is only compatable with AT&T, so if you use Verizon or T-Mobile, you probably want to wait for your contract to expire, because there's no password to unlock the phone.
2) The Iphone will use AT&T's EDGE network, which will take a few moments to download simply the New York Times. Although AT&T has acknowledged this problem and announced there will be upgrades to their EDGE, there are no specific dates as to when they'll upgrade it, nor to how fast the upgrades will be.
3)Although the onscreen keyboard seems plausible, it may cause more of a problem with the fact that: Many people have gotten very used to the qwerty keyboards from such units as the blackberry, Treos, Motorola Q, and other PDAs; it will be that much more difficult to suddenly switch to this new feature. Also, there may be problems when you're texting becomes buried underneath the very keyboard you're trying to type that text on.
5) The cost!!! For the 4 GB it will cost $500 USD! The 8 GB will cost $600. But that's just the Iphone cost. Also, with Cingular, you have to make a 2 year commitment and, unlike almost every other phone, the Iphone will not go down in price when you start a commitment. Although, that may not seem too bad now, since you'll be getting unlimited network plan for as little as $60 a month, in a year from now, when the Iphone isn't the coolest gadget out anymore, what becomes of your $500 phone when you want the best? And...
6)The Iphone has just been released, so the mass production of the product has just gone underway. leaving the first weeks/months to settle all the bugs that the Iphone has. History has shown, with the Xbox 360, that having the first isn't necessarily the best. Apple hasn't solved all the potential problems with the Iphone, and it'll be the first months that they find out what all those problems are and correct them.
So if you're planning on buying an Iphone, perhaps you may want to wait a while to be sure it's the phone for you.
